The vision of Amazon Global Mile (GM) is to be the most sought-after non-vessel operating common carrier (NVOCC) service provider shipping from CN to US and EU/UK for both owned and carried inventory over the next 3 years. They will be the shipping provider of choice offering an unrivaled booking experience for their Customers - Amazon retail, Amazon devices, Amazon private brands, Fulfillment By Amazon (FBA) and Merchant Fulfillment Network (MFN) Sellers and exports, leading the industry for speed, cost and reliability in all major regions. To accomplish this vision, Global Mile Tech (GMT) needs an in-house Freight Forwarding software that involves building best-in-class Planning and Execution suite of systems for “real” world which is not perfect and operationally complex. The operational complexity of GM logistics network is driven by 7 variables: 1) business type 2) package type 3) shipment modes 4) geo-regions 5) Logistics Service Provider (LSP) role 6) LSP service type and 7) LSP contracts per service type. Besides supporting for these 7 variables, they are solving extremely complex optimization problems that require processing of large multi-leg and multi-modal cross-border logistics network that can lead to identifying the most optimal path from billions of possibilities within few seconds. GMT is finding ways to model and standardize peculiar operational disruptions that may occur as cargo moves and are building intelligent disruption management systems that can proactively find the corrective actions and orchestrate them in fully automated fashion. Also, the cross-border transportation industry is exciting as there has not been much technical innovation in the space in last few decades and there is a lot of opportunity to solve never thought of problems that not only help Amazon but also disrupt the entire industry.

Key job responsibilities
The incumbent will work with and influence a very talented engineering pool of 100+ SDEs in 12+ development teams across more than 3 Director/VP orgs. The incumbent will be expected to influence not just the tech teams but also the business product and operations team who are also their customers. And through this process, learn from their vast and rich cross-border shipping experience about some of the most complex logistics problems that prevails in the industry and how Amazon can lead in solving them.

About the team
The charter of Amazon Global Mile Tech is to build a Transportation Management Solution (TMS) that offers its clients the ability to plan, execute and track a cargo shipment against a network of dis-aggregated service providers, with system integrations enabling accounts payable (AP), document management, control tower and customs brokerage operations. Planning and execution are the two core products of TMS that provide the capabilities to optimize fulfilling the booking request at the lowest cost, manage orchestration and execution of the shipment across different providers involved in the end-to-end cargo movement, and facilitate node operations and capacity management.
